Flames destroyed an apartment building Thursday, April 28th in East Deer Township.
There was one resident in all three apartments. East Deer Fire Chief Jack Bailie said when they arrived to the burning building along Freeport Road just before midnight, flames had already destroyed much of the building. Firefighters from 7 departments came to put the fire out.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, the entire second floor was fully engulfed along with the front section of the first floor.
We have had the privilege to meet Greg. Greg suffered burns to the back of his head during the fire that took his home. After running down the steps and saving his neighbor by alerting her to the fire, when he ran back up to save his dog Kit Kat, he was overcome by flames and smoke, but luckily they both made it out.
Greg provides for himself by providing general contracting services, as well as basement waterproofing, plumbing and electrical, you name it, a true jack of all trades. Having just sold his work truck days prior, looking to upgrade, he even lost the money from the sale in the fire.
We are asking for donations of tools of all shapes and sizes. An example of the items that were lost include: Stihl Tiller, weed wacker, Milwaukee heater jacket, DeWalt various tools and accessories, Carhardt Jacket Size 2XL. All basic tooks and accessories and tool boxes would be amazing.
Other personal items included a projector with surround sound, tv, furniture, and printer. Greg also is an outdoorsman and lost camping and fishing gear, Bow and Arrow and even lost his outdoor grill that he often prepared cookouts for his neighbor.
We have had the pleasure of meeting Rae and have spoken with Sherry's family.
Both girls are in need of replacing a lifetime of memories and belongings. Furniture, household items, toiletries, over the counter medicines and cleaning products are among the top needs right now. Any help with these items are needed.
On behalf of all 3 residents of East Deer and WPSARDC, our most heartfelt thank you for your help. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions regarding your donation.
Donations of toiletries, paper products, nonperishable foods and more are needed for the families. Donations are being accepted Monday through Friday, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm at 1405 Frey Road Pittsburgh PA 15235. As we progress with the situation, updates on individual needs will be placed here so please check back often.
